Obituary of Mimi Deans Mugler

Please share a memory of Mimi to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mimi died at her home in Berkeley, from inflammatory breast cancer. A home that she loved so much.
Born and raised in San Luis Obisbo, Ca. she moved to Menlo Park when she was ten years old. And she graduated from Menlo-Atherton HS in 1977. After a long stint with the USPS, she grew discontented and decided to go to college. She graduated from UC Berkeley's College of Natural Resources in 1991, with a degree in Conservation & Resource Studies and a Minor in City and Regional Planning. After graduating, she spent her career at Berkeley in various IT communications positions. She also worked with worldwide standards organizations to promote standardization of electronic calendaring and communications. She was proud to be the chair of Calconnect.org, a worldwide interoperable calendaring and scheduling standards organization. She really enjoyed bringing people together and building consensus on all the projects that she helped guide or brought to fruition. In 25 year’s of service Mimi received multiple awards for her excellent work and dedication to the University.

She met her husband, Jon Broshious in 1996, while Scottish country dancing. They became engaged at Mount Rainier Six months later. And they married one year after their first date. They made their home in Berkeley where they welcomed their daughter Anne into the world in 2000. It was a second marriage for both. And Anne was the child they finally got to have.

Mimi loved the outdoors. And explored it in so many ways. She would try to take backroads when she could. And she took long drives deep into the desert, in search of desert waters. She loved the ocean, and hot springs and mountain lakes and rivers, Geysers and waterfalls. She went hiking, Scuba diving and backpacking, biking and mountain climbing. She was a member of the Sierra club and the Mono lake committee. She also loved to dance and Ski. Her first date with her husband was a ski day at Sierra at Tahoe. Followed a few days later by Tapas night at Murrieta's well and the Scottish dancing Valentine's ball the night after that.

Mimi loved to travel to different cities and countries too. Her favorite cities were Levanto in Italy, Colmar in France, and Boston and New York in the US. But no matter the wonders of a place she traveled to, she would always ache to return to her home after a time. Her family and home were her touchstones.

Mimi was predeceased by her father, Dr. Frederick Mugler, and her niece Laura Hall. She is survived by her husband, Jon Leslie Broshious, their daughter Anne Leslie Mugler, and her step children Christopher and Rebecca Rebagliati. She is also survived by her mother, Barbara Mugler; her siblings, Norine Mugler (Merit Carnahan), Rick Mugler (Alice Naqvi Mugler), Patricia Acheff (Steve Acheff) and seven nieces and nephews.
