Obituary of Mary Margaret Malloy

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Margaret (Woods) Malloy, 75, passed away on May 2, 2019 at Casa Blanca Retirement Home in Alamo, California, after a long struggle with the health effects of Dementia.

Mary was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on August 4, 1943.  She and her older brother, William, would lose both parents at a young age; her mother from early onset breast cancer, and her father from an occupational accident, and be raised by her paternal Aunt Nora Woods.  Mary married her high school sweetheart, Roger Malloy, on September 28, 1963.  His navy enlistment brought them to Puerto Rico before they settled in Hampton, Virginia to raise their family. Mary worked as a telephone switchboard operator and also ran a daycare in her home before pursuing her nursing degree in the early 1980's.

She would settle into her career as a night shift Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse at Riverside Regional Hospital in Newport News, Virginia, which allowed her to spend time with babies.  Mary truly loved babies, with household pets a close second.  She retired and moved cross country to California in order to spend the last twelve years of her life among her children and grandchildren.  Nothing gave her more joy than to care for her granddaughters and see them grow up.

Besides her family, Mary had many favorite past times such as shopping, catching up with her best friend and, according to her granddaughters, eating ice cream and going to McDonald's!  One of her passions was reading a good book, which would be something she would share with her children and many of her grandchildren. Mary also loved caring for the many pets she adopted through the SPCA.  Dogs seemed to be her favorite though cats were a close second!

A rosary and funeral Mass were held at St. Isidore's in Danville, California, with interment at Holy Sepulchre in Hayward, California.  She is survived by her son Christopher (Athena) Malloy, daughter Suzanne (David) Mello, and granddaughters Savannah, Quinn, Elizabeth, Darcy, Isabella, Ainsley, and Danielle.  In lieu of flowers, you may send donations in her memory to your local SPCA chapter to help care for the animals that Mary loved so much in her lifetime.
