Tom Serra, 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 16. He was born in Detroit, MI to Marco and Maria Serra. After growing up in Detroit and marrying Betty Jane Chalou in 1944, he decided to move the family to Antioch in 1951.Tom worked for Fireboard/Louisiana Pacific for 34 years, then retired in 1985 and moved with Betty Jane to their cabin in Truckee. Tom and Betty Jane moved back to Antioch in 2003 to be closer to their family.Tom loved sports, traveling, and his extended family. An avid golfer and league bowler, he made many wonderful friends throughout his life. Tom was inducted into the Diablo Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1993.Tom was preceded in death by his parents Marco and Maria Serra, his brothers Joey and Carmelo Serra, and his sisters Rose (Robert) Lujan and Katie (Domenic) Sampaolo. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Jane, his son Michael (Angie) Serra, his daughter Pat (Jim) Pyle, his granddaughter Wendy Liebig, his grandson Rick Pyle, his great-grandson Kevin Liebig, his sisters Angie (Sam) Cavallieri and Mamie (Charlie) Esposito and numerous wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins.Tom requested no services. A celebration of his life will be held by his family at a future date. The family would like to thank Kaiser Hospital of Antioch and Washoe Hospital of Reno for their great care.
