Obituary of William M. Hughes

William Morris Hughes (Bill), 71, of Brentwood, CA passed away following an escalating series of medical complications on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. Bill was born in Wilkes Barre, Pa on October 29, 1944 to the late Percy and Lois Hughes. A 1962 graduate of Wilkes Barre's Meyers High School, he lettered in football and track, holding a school track record for decades. He attended Lafayette College on a full academic scholarship graduating in 1966 with a civil engineering degree with a minor in religion and was a proud member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Bill began his professional career in Pittsburgh, PA with Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel where he helped develop components for the World Trade Center in New York City and Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh. Eighteen years of employment with Hilti Fastening Systems eventually brought him to California. He retired from Morgan Stanley as a financial advisor. Bill is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda Aschenbrenner Hughes of Brentwood; daughters Tracy Scotch (Dean) and Kristin Gamble (Rian); grandchildren Cooper, Therin, and Brady Gamble, and Owen and Patrick Scotch, all of Livermore; brother Orwig Hughes of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sister Debbie Hampel (Charlie) of Dallas, PA; nephew Michael Ruggere and great nephew Gio Ruggere of Dallas, PA; Sister-in-law Joyce Aschenbrenner of Morrisville, NC; and many other family members. Bill was also blessed with many wonderful friends.
