Please share a memory of Fernanda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Fernanda Uomini, nee Biancalana, longtime resident of Pleasanton, passed away January 10, 2016 at the age of 93 in Walnut Creek, California. The family will hold a private funeral service. Fernanda Uomini was born to Vittorio and Giulia Biancalana, Italian immigrants who were living in San Francisco at the time of her birth on March 9, 1922. Fernanda grew up in Sacramento where her family enjoyed a climate that reminded them of Tuscany where they lived before striking out to build a new life in America. Fernanda graduated from Sacramento High School where she met Albert Uomini. They married on August 16, 1942 in Reno, Nevada. Fernanda's achievements included raising two daughters, Virginia and Christine, creating exotic dishes for the family, sewing clothes for everyone in the family, and a skill at growing flowers and produce. She was very artistic, and worked for Dorothy's Florist in Pleasanton designing flower arrangements. She and her husband established a local plant nursery. For recreation she entertained friends and family at the family cabin in Twain Harte, California. In later years she took a job with the Pleasanton Housing Authority at Kottinger Village and Komindorsky. She was hired as an accountant, and was promoted to Executive Secretary, a position that she faithfully fulfilled for many years. She received a commendation from the Authority for keeping the office running smoothly between the terms of changing directors. To contribute to the development of community youth, she taught sewing in the Pleasanton 4H Club, and later assumed the responsibility of Community Leader for the Club itself. Fernanda was preceded in death by her husband Albert Uomini, and her brother Fernando Biancalana. She is survived by her sister Victoria Wrinkle (Thomas), daughters Christine Uomini and Virginia Katz (Larry), grandchildren Justin Katz (Carrie) and Leah Katz Ahmadi (Brahm), and great grandsons Elias, Malachi, and Adir Carmelo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Friends of Pleasanton Senior Center 5353 Sunol Blvd. Pleasanton, CA 94566 Or Online to: http://www.seniorcenterfriends.org/-donate.html
