Obituary of James Thomas Cloward

James (Jim) Cloward, Jr. passed away on Monday, June 9th of a heart attack while swimming at Cowell Pool in Concord, CA. Jim touched the lives of many as a former football coach with both College Park High School and Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill. He was also owner of Hillcrest Topsoil Inc. located in Antioch. Jim attended UC Berkeley where he was a proud member of the Cal football team and the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. He was an avid traveler known to enjoy life to its fullest. His presence was familiar throughout the communities of Pleasant Hill and Antioch from being a resident for nearly 40 years and a business owner for 17 years respectively. Jim is survived by his life partner, Laurie Korn, his son, Jules Korn Cloward, his mother and step father Frances (Fran) and Sam Sherwood, and his brother Jeremy Cloward all of Pleasant Hill. Jim was pre-deceased by his father, James Cloward Sr. and sister Julie Miles. More about Jim's last day, along with photos, can be found at the blog address www.rtwgirl.typepad.com. A celebration of Jim's life will be held Thursday, July 17th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Community Center located at 320 Civic Drive in Pleasant Hill.
