Doug was born in Oakland but grew up in Orinda, graduating with the first class of Miramonte in 1959. He attended Stanford University, where he met his wife, graduating in 1963 with a major in political science and minor in business. He was active in the rescue of Kesterson National Wildlife Refuge and served on the Grasslands Water District Board from 1998 to his death. He was a life member of the California Waterfowl Association and an active member and supporter of Ducks Unlimited, serving on the latter’s Conservation Programs Committee and Canadian and National Boards for many years, and more recently, also on the board of DU Mexico.
He was also a beautiful water skier and fearless snow skier, enjoying decades of house boating on Lake Shasta with extended family and winter ski trips with family and good friends. He and Carol also experienced many unforgettable travels with close friends.
Throughout his life, through both business and pleasure, Doug developed many strong friendships with people he treasured.
His was a life well lived. A loving husband, proud father and grandfather, and loyal friend, Doug was known for his intelligence, advocacy, loyalty, keen sense of humor, and wise counsel.
