Obituary of Byron L Hagar

Byron Lester Hagar, age 89, peacefully passed on to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 8, 2018. He was surrounded by his family and close friends.

 

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia Hagar, daughter Catherine Houf (William), son Gil Hagar (Debbie), and two grandsons, Matthew Hagar (Megan) and Kristopher Hagar.  

He is also survived by his loyal dog Smokey, a niece, Sabrina Hagar and a nephew, Doug Hagar (Martha)

and two Great Nieces, Hillary Hagar, Hanna Goode (Johnathan), and one Great Great Niece

Elise Grace Goode, and many cousins.

 

Byron was born in Oil Center, Oklahoma and moved with his family to Antioch, CA at the age of 15.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Glover Hagar and Ofa Pearl (Davis) Hagar, and his fraternal twin Randall Hagar. 

 

Byron joined the Marine Corp and proudly served from 1947 – 1951.  In 1952 he met and married his wife, Virginia Lea Moorman of Oakland, CA.

 

After being discharged from the Marines, Byron worked at his father’s plumbing shop in Antioch. Then he later worked for Los Medanos Plumbing in Pittsburg and retired from the Plumbers & Steam Fitters Union Local 159 in 1990 after 36 years.

 

In addition to his family and the Lord, Byron loved fishing, playing bocce ball and Pedro, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Oklahoma Sooners fan. He also loved serving in the Marines and was Commandant for the Delta Diablo Detachment 1155 Marine Corps League. He was also a member of the IOOF (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) for over 65 years.

 

Services, followed by a reception, will be held to honor Byron on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11 am at Golden Hills Community Church, 2401 Shady Willow Lane, Brentwood, CA.  

 

A Military burial will take place at 12:30 pm on Monday, January 7th, 2019 at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Byron’s name may be made to Golden Hills Community Church at goldenhills.org, or to your favorite Veteran’s charity.
