Obituary of John Walsh, MD

Dr. John (Jack) Ryan Walsh passed away at home surrounded by his loving family and under the care of two of his loving caregivers. He was born in Rochester, New York, attended Mc Quaid Jesuit High School and graduated from College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. He married the love of his life, Sue, and earned his medical degree from the New Jersey College of Medicine  where their first son, John, was born. He completed his pediatric training at the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital where their second son, Michael, was born. He then entered the US Navy and was stationed at Camp Pendleton for two years, where their third son, Kevin was born. Upon discharge from the Navy, the family moved to the Bay Area where he went to work for The Permanente Medical Group in Hayward and Fremont, where their fourth son, Brendan, was born.

For over 30 years Jack was a dedicated pediatrician, while partnering with Sue to raise 4 active sons. He served in many capacities in his church, as well as coaching his sons  in sports. He also found time to pursue his life-long love of golf when he retired in 1998. In addition to Sue and their four sons, he is survived by his sons’ spouses, Elizabeth, Kathy and Meredith, and partner, Aaron, six grandchildren, Michael, Nicholas, Eileen, Jack, Nolan and Kyle, sisters Patricia Bielawa, Mary Anne Grattan and brother, Martin Walsh, many nieces and nephews. His sister, Catherine Carnevale, preceded him in death.
