Obituary of Oscar Buitrago, Sr.
Oscar Alberto Buitrago Sr died Friday, 03/08/19 at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, Ca.
He was survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Alba Estella Buitrago, three children, Oscar Buitrago Jr, Elsa Buitrago and Marvin Buitrago, his seven Grandchildren, Alba Estella Guerrero, Julio Valle, Lance Buitrago, Logan Buitrago, Cameron Buitrago, Selena Buitrago, Julio Buitrago and four Great Grandchildren, Elsa Guerrero, Lucinda Guerrero, Dominic Buitrago and Ka’Mya Davis. He was also survived by his two loving brothers, Ariel Buitrago, Rodolfo Buitrago and sister, Nubia Arguello and their families.
Oscar was born in Managua, Nicaragua in 1931. In 1950, at 19 years old, he married the love of his life, his Albita. Three kids and 10 years later, they moved to San Francisco, CA after falling in love with the city in just one visit. He worked hard to support his family as a custodian for the SIEU Labor Union and retired at the age of 65. On the weekends, Oscar would coach baseball. He coached for over 20 years, eventually coaching in the minor leagues. During that time, he was asked to inaugurate, what is now known as, Crocker Amazon BallPark in San Francisco.
Oscar was a loving, family man who spent his retirement raising his two Great Grandchildren, traveling, watching baseball and football games (specifically the Giants and 49ers). He loved to share stories of his life experiences, read the newspaper, play poker and sit back and enjoy an ice cold Tecate.
Oscar’s smile would light up every room. He was a lover of life and will be missed by so many.
Services will be held on Saturday, 03/16/19 at Bethel Baptist Church in Concord, CA at 3:00pm.
