Robert W. Gately Sr., 91, of Livermore, CA. passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014. He was born to the late Phillip and Edna Gately, Nov. 10, 1922, in Weymouth, Massachusetts. He graduated from Weymouth High School and received an Associate's degree from Chabot College in Hayward, CA... His loving wife, Ann Gately proceeded him in death in January of 2003. Robert achieved the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer, during 30 years of military service. Enlisting in the Navy during World War II, he served on many ships during his long career, spent a year in Vietnam and eventually retired from the Navy at Treasure Island Naval Base in San Francisco Bay. In retirement, Bob was an avid golfer with the SIRS organization and was an active volunteer for the Alameda Sheriff's department. He was survived by sisters, Edna Antoine and Mary Hackett; sons, Robert Jr. & Rosemarie Gately; Michael Gately; Dennis & Deborah Gately; Steven Gately, all who loved him deeply. Robert is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Robert "Bob" and Ann will be interred at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon California. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Organization.
