James D. Davis was born on September 18, 1944 in Marion, Ohio and passed away peacefully with his family by his side on August 11, 2020 in Antioch, CA at the age of 75 after a six (6) year long and courageous battle with cancer. Jim moved to California with his parents when he was 13 months old. Jim attended Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo and graduated Class of 1962. In 1965, Jim met his wife Barbara Isola and they were married in 1966 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Oakland. They moved from San Lorenzo to Lafayette where they lived for 27 years and raised their three children. After their family expanded, they moved to Brentwood to be close to their grandchildren. Jim worked as a sheet metal worker out of Local 104 for 40 years and then went to work at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory as the sheet metal shop supervisor where he retired after 18 years of service in 2002. Jim was a life long Bay Area sports fan. He loved watching all three of his children and grand children play in their sporting activities. Jim would travel far and wide to take in a game and cheer on his family. A craftsman at heart, Jim was always building or tinkering on something. He loved building custom motorcycles or designing his dream backyard oasis. He loved creating spaces and projects that family and friends could enjoy. Jim is survived by his loving wife Barbara of 54 years, son Kevin, daughters Deborah Martin (Paul), Denise Iles (William), grandchildren Taylor Devengenzo (Matt), Payton Davis, Hayley Davis, Emily Rose Iles and Cody Martin and great grandchild Lainey Devengenzo. He is also survived by his aunt Bernice Smith, cousins Angela and Steven Smith of Oakland, Aunts Helene Darlington and Margie Schmidt and cousins Jim, Dave and Jaime Schmidt of Michigan. Jim is also survived by his beloved Rottweiler, Axel. Jim was preceded in death by his parents James Davis and Lillian Darlington and Mother in Law Irene Isola-Marchiorlatti. The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses at John Muir Hospital Concord Campus, UCSF Mission Bay, John Muir Home Health and Best Home Health for all the help and support during his battle and a special thank you to Dr. Elizabeth Renner and Dr. Elizabeth Odumakinde. The family would also like to thank the staff and security at Sutter Delta Hospital in Antioch, CA for taking such good care of the family and for making special accommodations for allowing his Rottweiler, Axel to visit him the night before his passing.
