Obituary of Angela Skrivanich

Angela Agnes Skrivanich (Griffith) of Walnut Creek, California passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 21, 2020; she was 84 years old. Angela was born December 22, 1935, in Oak Park, IL. She had a peripatetic childhood as the daughter of a civil engineer, also living in Columbus, OH, Wichita, KS, and Long Beach, CA, before settling with her parents, William and Catherine Griffith, in Walnut Creek in 1953. Angela was a proud graduate of Holy Names High School and Holy Names College in Oakland, California. She was in the first generation of Holy Names College graduates to receive their education at the new Oakland Hills Campus. Ever elegant and graceful, Angela was an active and social soul. During her career as an Admissions Officer at the University of California, Berkeley, she developed outreach programs for older re-entry students and diverse learners from junior colleges around the state. She cared for her coworkers deeply, considered many dear friends and held them in high regard. Angela also served her faith community with pride. She was the first female lector at St John Vianney Catholic Church Walnut Creek, was in the first group of lay lectors Cathedral of St Francis de Sales in Oakland. She continued her role as a lay lector at St Monica’s Catholic Church in Moraga and as a member of the choir until she was unable participate due to health reasons. Angela had a passion for theater and acting and was cast in community theater productions throughout the Bay Area. Angela is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Marion “Matt” Skrivanich. Angela and Matt met in Oakland at the Lake Merritt Women’s Club and were married at Saint Mary's Church in Walnut Creek, July 12, 1958. They lived a short while in Hayward before settling in Walnut Creek, just up the street from her family home. Angela is also survived by her children Mary Ann of Walnut Creek, Mark of Concord, John of Las Vegas, Paul and his wife Julie of Reno, and Andrew and his wife Sara of Camden, Maine; her grandchildren Kaylee, Ian, Catherine, Sophia, Devon, William and Julian. Angela will be sorely missed by family and friends. Her passing has left a hole in many hearts. May she be embraced in the peace and glory of Heaven.
