Obituary of James Stephen Goonan
Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Jim at home in the loving arms of his family, after fighting a courageous battle with esophageal cancer for two years. He is now at peace, with no more suffering.
Left to mourn are his devoted wife, Sally (Lotter), adoring sons Mark and Shea and loving daughter Brittany. Also surviving Jim are his loving mother, Patricia Cain, brother Patrick Goonan, sisters Cassie Gawel (John) and Eileen Kennedy. Predeceased by his father Harry Goonan, stepfather Richard Cain and sister Maureen Hosman.
Jim was a man with a kind and generous heart and was very active in the Pleasant Hill community, including Head Commissioner for PHBA, Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts Troop 282 and President of the Walnut Festival Association. Jim loved to BBQ and owned Steel Smokin’ BBQ and Catering, making many new friends along the way. But to Jim, his family always came first and being a husband to Sally and father to his sons and daughter was the best job in the world.
A Celebration of Life is planned for this summer. We know that Jim’s joyful spirit will be among us, as we gather with family and friends to celebrate his amazing life. In his memory, donations may be sent to Shriners Children Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project.
Jim was an amazing man and we will miss him dearly. Until we meet again, may he rest in peace and his memory be eternal.
