Obituary of Susan Charlotte Nash

Please share a memory of Susan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Susan C. Nash died peacefully on March 18th, 2014 at Bruns House in Alamo, CA after a brief illness. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and beloved pets. Susan was born in Trenton, NJ on April 16, 1946 to the late Charlotte M. and Gaylord A. Kanavel. In 1964, she graduated from Pennsbury High School in Pennsylvania. She attended West Chester State University, Trenton Junior College, and graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1970. In 1976, Susan visited California and fell in love with the people, warmth, sunshine, and coastal hills. She could often be found hiking the hills of Briones State Park with her dogs and friends. During her working years, she was a programmer for Contra Costa County, a systems analyst for several banking institutions, and later a regulatory compliance officer at World Savings and Loan. After retirement, Susan volunteered at the Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) store in Concord, CA. Animals and their welfare were a huge part of Susan's life. She cherished the friends she made at ARF, as well as her coworkers and neighbors throughout the years. Susan is survived by her sister Nancy K. Grant (Charles) of Midland, MI, brother John C. Kanavel of Yardley, PA, two nieces, Charlotte Grant (John Henry) and Melissa Kanavel, her cousins Carl Mueller (Judy), Richard Mueller (Farida), Louise Mueller (David Lagala), and Kate Mueller (Keith Schumacher) and their families, former husband Robert Nash, and her dear silky terrier, Finnian, and parakeet, Kavanaugh. A celebration of Susan's life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, Susan requested that you consider ARF (www.arf.net), an animal shelter in your area, or a random act of kindness. The family of Susan is very grateful for the services and excellent care provided by Hospice of the East Bay and Bruns House.
