I met Mark only a few years ago when he was introducing a new product to our company. A couple of years later I joined CSS and had the pleasure of working with him. Mark was truly one of the good ones, honest, friendly and fun. I will miss him, and I will remember him.

Mark and I sat across from each other at the Chicago office of Goldman Sachs in the early 1990's and became close. In addition to his extraordinary skills as a marksman, Mark was a real pro when servicing the needs of his clients in the financial services industry. Although my wife and I last saw Mark and Carolyn about 10 years ago on a visit to San Francisco, I will never forget Mark's smile which the photo accompanying this obituary captures so perfectly. Our most heartfelt condolences go out to Carolyn, Miller, Lily, and all of his family and friends.

Uncle Mark, better known as GUM, or Great Uncle Mark was a treasure to me and so many others. He astounded me with his knowledge about history and so many other topics. He and I shared a love of good food, and cooking for those we love. I felt closer to him in many ways more than my own father, and he always made me feel so special, and welcome when we visited. I will miss him dearly. I will think of him whenever I hear the familiar Yacht rock we liked to dance around the kitchen to while cooking together. I will hold all the sweet memories of him in my heart and thank God that I was counted among those that he loved.

I met Mark up at United Sportsman in Concord. We were shooting practice and Mark asked if he could join us, I said sure. When we were through shooting I asked him if he played poker and he said that he’s been known to play. I instantly liked Mark he was smart, quick witted, and fun person to be around. We solved many of the worlds problems sitting on the porch after shooting having a beer….. or two. He shot a few seasons on our squad in skeet tournaments. When we were shooting Mark was tail gunner. If he missed a target, he would stand there drop his gun down stare at the sky and analyze all the things that he did wrong to cause him to miss. I told him Mark you need to get on the station do your shooting and do your analyzing off the pad you’re screwing the rhythm up. Nobody’s taking pictures of you. We both laughed.. Mark camped next to us in Stockton. We had a Lot of fun and good conversations.. Thanks to Sheridan
I had the pleasure of talking to Mark on the phone a few months back and we were reminiscing about those times up at the club. Mark was definitely one of the good guys and will very much be missed.

Having worked closely with Mark at CSS for 5+ years, I developed a deep respect and close friendship with him. Mark was extremely thorough, calm, personable, knowledgable, funny, and had a great ability to see the big picture. I learned a ton from Mark and enjoyed talking and working with him on a daily basis. Mark was also a very loyal and caring friend and mentor. I was lucky enough to have earned his care and he looked out for me in ways that I didn’t know I needed.
I enjoyed very much our work trips, conferences, meetings, and drinks after hours.
Cheers Mark, you are loved and will be missed,
Troy Miller
