Obituary of Jim Young

Jim Young. of Lafayette, was born September 6th, 1929 in Eldorado, Arkansas, passed away at home surrounded by his family October 25, 2013, survived by his wife, Julie and daughter Jennifer Bivens. Jim served 4 years as a seagoing US Marine, on the USS Rochester during the Korean war, graduated from University of Central Arkansas and was an alumnus and member of the Board of Governors of the University of Tennessee. After moving to California in 1958 worked in the baking industry in sales and plant management where he was President and Man of the year of Allied Trades. He was President of the Walnut Creek Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1965 and was elected a JCI Senator. He was a member of the Lamorinda SIRS, American Legion, Marine Corps League, Walnut Creek Elks and the 151 Dive Club. He enjoyed backpacking, traveling the world, scuba diving, golf and cheering for the Tennessee VOLS. Socializing with his many friends was his greatest pleasure. An informal celebration of Jim's life will be held on November 17th from 1 to 4 pm at the Walnut Creek Elks lodge, 1475 Creekside Drive, Walnut Creek, CA, Ph. 925-935-1811. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers.
