Obituary of Larry W. Lindsey

Husband, Brother, Uncle, Godfather, Businessman, Friend. It is with the deepest of sadness to announce the passing of Larry Lindsey. Following his love of cars, Larry got his first towing job shortly after graduating from high school in 1970. He loved his job and his passion for towing took off. Also from there, his dream of owning his own tow company was born. Several years later that dream would come true. In 1983, Larry and his wife, Kim would take over the local AAA contract, Orinda Towing. Larry developed many wonderful relationships with his customers and fellow merchants. Whether it was providing directions to a hard to find street (he knew Orinda like the back of his hand), grilling hot dogs and hamburgers for a school function or providing his truck to be a rolling stage for the annual 4th of July parade, Larry was the first to volunteer. He was mostly proud of the rapport he developed with the Orinda Police Dept. If an officer needed anything Larry made it happen and usually within 10-15 minutes. Over the years some of those friendships grew into extended family where he became "Uncle Larry: to some and brother to all. That love will never die. Finally in 2011 after AAA moved to out of Orinda, Larry decided it was time to slow down and sold his business to long time friend Bob Berry. Bob agreed provided Larry stayed on running Orinda Towing as he had for the last 28 years. To Larry this was like he had a weight of the world lifted off his shoulders and felt like that 18 year old kid at his first towing job. Besides towing, Larry's other passion was sports. Coming from a bowling family Larry learned to bowl at 8 years old and continued for over 23 years. He bowled in countless leagues and in 1978 he achieved the best score in bowling shooting a perfect score of 300 just to come back the very next week and bowl a 299! He also loved golf and watching the 49ers and Giants. If he wasn't watching a Giant's game then he was watching it on TV along with the PGA and 49er game at the same time. He also cherished playing golf with his buddies and every weekend the would play their round of golf all while booking a tee time insuring a game the next week. As one of his friends said, "Larry was a big guy who lived a big life," and he loved every minute of it. Larry is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kim; a brother, Ron (Debbie) of Antioch; sister, Carole of Martinez; adoring uncle to CArrie Lenhart, Griffin Lindsey, Roger Dunn, Lindsay Serota and Sally Lopez; loving great uncle (Gruncle) to 8 grandnieces and grandnephews; and also a special uncle to Maria Sparvoli. A memorial will be held at 10am on October 22nd at the Orinda Community Center, 28 Orinda Way, Orinda, CA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Assoc. or the American Cancer Society.
