Obituary of Sally Stan

Please share a memory of Sally to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sally Bould Stan has been a resident of Lafayette, California for 50 years. She was dedicated to her family, her community and her church. Sally grew up in Taft, California and as a child she designed and built an adobe brick clubhouse. Her interest in art and design lead to her education at UC Berkely where she graduated from the School of Architecture in 1939. In her life-long career she has designed almost 2000 homes, most of them in Contra Costa County. After her children were grown she devoted more time to her career; in 1985 she was licensed as an architect in California. As a long time active member of the United Methodist Church of Lafayette, she designed the remodel of the Church office building and the enlargement of the Sanctuary. This work was including the work on the United Methodist Church are archived by the International Archive of Women in Architecture ( HYPERLINK "http://spec.lib.vt.edu/IAWA/inventories/StanSB.html" http://spec.lib.vt.edu/IAWA/inventories/StanSB.html). Although her career was extraordinary for a woman of her generation, she never thought of herself that way; her career simply reflected her long term interests. Sally was active in community affairs and served on the board of the Lafayette Improvement Association as member, secretary, treasurer, vice president and president over a two decade period. She was the first woman to serve on the board and subsequently got other women involved. Since her retirement in 1998 she has been surrounded by loving family and friends. Sally has written briefly of her childhood, growing up in a house leased from the Honolulu oil company; this is on display at the West Kern Oil Museum in Taft, California ( HYPERLINK "http://www.westkern-oilmuseum.org" www.westkern-oilmuseum.org). In lieu of flowers, Sally would like donations made to the West Kern Oil Museum at the website above. Sally is survived by her daughters, Sherri La France of Irvine, CA, Sally Bould of Brookline, MA, and her sister Wena Dows of Culver City, CA and grandchildren, Robert Troy, Erika and Tony, and 3 great grandchildren. Sally was preceded in death by her son, Robert Bould A memorial service will be held at the Lafayette United Methodist Church, 955 Moraga Rd. on July 26, Saturday, at 2 pm in the afternoon.
