On December 4, 2007, Margaret Arlene Lessiter Bush a resident of Chateau III, Pleasant Hill, Ca (formerly of Joppa Maryland and Kennedyville, Maryland) passed peacefully into a new life with her savior and loved ones who have gone before. She will be missed deeply by her family, friends and caregivers at Our House, Chateau III. She was the daughter of the late Edith V. Smith and William J. Lessiter and was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Born on Christmas day, 1917 on the family farm in Kent County, Michigan, she graduated from Michigan State University and completed a 5th year at the University of Michigan to become a Registered Dietitian. She married Orville J. Bush Sept. 6, 1941 in Kent County, Michigan. Together they moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she worked as a dietitian at Shephard Pratt Hospital. She "retired" to raise her children in 1943. In the 1960s she went back to work for the Maryland State Health Department. She retired as a supervisor in Food Service in the Baltimore area. She loved baseball and was a vocal fan of the Baltimore Orioles. She enjoyed playing bridge, was a dedicated scrabble player, and had a lively sense of humor. She was an avid walker and enjoyed walking her dogs, especially her beloved Miss Emmy and Minky. She will be remembered for her volunteer work through her church, and the Kent and Queen Ann's hospital. With her late husband, she was a former member of Mountain Christian Church in Joppa, Maryland. After retirement, she was a member of Shrewsbury Parish Church in Kennedyville, Maryland. She is predeceased by her husband, Orville. She is survived by her children, Maridith Bush Denton of Emigrant, Montana; Margaret Bush Shockley of Walnut Creek, Ca.; and John Lessiter Bush of Washington, D.C. She is survived by 5 grandchildren: Lisa Denton Peterson, Howard Vaughn Lewis, Louis V. Surgent, Denise Denton Woodall and Daniel B. Shockley, and four great-grandchildren: David Winter, Luke Woodall, Ryan Winter, and John (Jack) Lewis. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 5, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Walnut Creek. Burial will be at Shrewsbury Parish Church, Kennedyville, Maryland.
