Florence Eleanor Brown Born October 5, 1930 Called home to God June 26, 2007 Born Florence E. Starr to Sam Ross and Annabelle Starr of Taft, Oklahoma, where she grew up and attended The Deaf Blind and Orphaned School until graduation. After leaving The Deaf Blind and Orphaned School Florence attended Langston University. After coming west to San Francisco, California, Florence met Melvin V. Brown Sr. and was married for 12 years. From that union one child was born Melvin V. Brown, Jr.. Florence worked various places in San Francisco, including Laguna Honda Hospital. But, found her passion, working the girls' department on the 3rd floor of the Market St. Emporium. Throughout her career there, she helped clothe a generation of San Francisco young ladies. Florence's door was open to anyone in need of help. She knew the perfect time to give a hug or a kick in the pants. Her bright smile could warm the coldest of San Francisco days. Her love for her family was only matched for her love for her Deaf Blind and Orphaned brothers and sisters. If there was ever a call for help, Florence was there to answer. She spent her life helping others and caring for others in times of need and that spirit lives on in her family today After suffering a stroke 6 years ago, Florence fought a GREAT fight against dementia and Alzheimer's. Until suffering another stoke that sent her into a deep sleep from which she would never again awaken on June 23. Still a fighter Florence, finally succumbed at 9:10 p.m. on the 26th day of June in the year of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ 2007 Florence was preceded in death by her sister Barbara Jean Gage and youngest brother Aaron "Oakie" Dunn.
