George M. Horan 1938-2006 George died peacefully on December 8th surrounded by his family after bravely facing cancer for many years. He is survived by his beloved wife Beverly; children Kathleen Horan, Jerry Stern, Cheryl Stern, and Evette Gutierrez and husband Jose; grandchildren Rachel and Anthony Gutierrez. He also cared deeply for his nieces, nephews, cousins, and in laws in California and on the east coast. George grew up in Hartford, Connecticut but traveled the world as a Sailor in the Navy and then the Merchant Marines. He settled in Concord, CA and became a welder. He was a member of Boilemakers Union 549 for 31 years. George was a working class intellectual. He was well versed in politics, sports, and literature. Those who love him will deeply miss his wise counsel and dry wit. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Contra Costa. Services will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Isidore Church, 440 La Gonda Way, Danville, CA. A reception will be held immediately following the service.
