Evelyn Olson passed away peacefully on September 30 in Walnut Creek at Manorcare nursing facility. She was 94.Evelyn Danielson was born December 27, 1910 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was the second of four daughters of second generation Norwegian parents. Her father was a Lutheran minister, whose vocation took the family to several different locations in the west and Midwest.Evelyn completed high school in Madelia, Minnesota, and subsequently attended St. Olaf College, receiving a bachelor's degree there and continuing on to postgraduate work in library science at Pratt Institute, in New York City.Following graduation from library school, Evelyn worked at various New York City branch libraries. While in New York, Evelyn met Alvin Olson, a fellow mid-westerner, and they were married in 1940. They subsequently moved to Washington, D.C. where Alvin worked as a civilian employee of the Department of the Army. The Olsons continued to live in the Washington area, where Evelyn worked as a Fairfax County branch librarian, until moving to California in 1996.Evelyn is survived by her son Daniel, daughter-in-law Janet, and grandson Kenneth, all of Walnut Creek, granddaughter Jodie of San Diego, and sister Ruth Estrem of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Alvin, her husband of nearly 65 years, passed away in June, 2005.A Memorial Service will be held October 16 at Hope Lutheran Church in Rossmoor at 12:15 P.M.
