Obituary of Dennis Paul Mallory

Dennis Paul Mallory, age 67, passed away peacefully with family by his side on 8/27/14. He is survived by wife and best friend of 19 years, Kennette Mallory of Martinez; son Adam Mallory of San Diego; daughter Sara Engel of Napa; son David Mallory (Rachael) of Green Valley; stepdaughter Kate Sierras of Jerome, Arizona; brother Tom Mallory (Dorothy) of Yreka; grandchildren Skye Engel, Asia Engel and Maya Sierras-Leware; plus many nieces, nephews and cousins. Also survived by former wife/mother of his children and long-time friend Louise Mallory; and the Moreira-Rivera-Teixeira clan. Dennis was born on 10/28/46 in San Francisco, the youngest of four brothers. His family moved to Oakland when he was 5; then to Martinez when he was 14. He graduated from Alhambra High School in 1964. Later he earned a degree in Criminal Justice from Diablo Valley College plus various specialized law enforcement certifications. From 1966-1970 during the Vietnam era, Dennis served his country overseas as a top-security Cryptographer. In 1971 he began a career in law enforcement; first as a police officer for Lawrence, Mass; then as a Deputy Sheriff for Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office (CCCSO); next a Background Investigator for CCCSO; and finally a freelance private investigator for local police agencies, retiring in 2004. He moved to Nevada in 2007 where he excelled in leading a volunteer ministry that offered spiritual counseling to jail inmates. For health reasons he moved back to Martinez in 2012. Dennis was a skilled chef, expressing his affection for family and friends by preparing them wonderful meals. He was a talented portrait artist; a music lover; an avid reader; a creative writer; a clever jokester; a devoted husband, father and grandfather; and a faithful friend. Final Resting Place: The Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA. A celebration of Dennis's life and reception will take place on October 15 at 11:00 am.
