Carl gave me comfort, knowing that my sweet tooth could be accepted in his home, as he always had cookies to make me smile after a hard day at school. He also gave me so many memories of my childhood through his photographs. I cherish the photos he took of me, Lisa and our lives together. I'm so happy my childhood was enriched by Carl, Ruth and their loving home. Thank you so much for having me be a part of your lives. You all mean so much to me. Love Always, Debbie

I am so grateful to Lisa for sharing her wonderful family with me - cats included! Carl was always one to hijack my ears. He always had something interesting to talk about so I always looked forward to seeing him. I remember being over your house when your dad gave me a guided tour of his wonderful collection of ashtrays. Then there was the time he brought out his coin collection. He knew each of them intimately, like they were his children! I admire him for his passion and patience for collecting. I always felt welcome in his home. He will be missed! - Fondly, Helen Ju

Thanks for sharing Nicole. That is one of my favorite memories of us and my Dad. And another was the time that he asked Barbara to stop bouncing her ball in the house but she just had to do it one more time and of course it landed in his soup bowl :-)

I am sorry to hear about Mr Brandt's passing. It feels like a little piece of my childhood has gone with him. Lisa, my sister Barbara and I (the court threesome) always had such fun as kids trying to be one step ahead of Mr. Brandt in our shenanigans. One of my most vivid memories of him was a time when the 3 of us were playing out in the playhouse in their side yard. We were hopping from the playhouse roof onto their roof when Mr. Brandt promptly came out and told us to stay off the roof. Of course, we proceeded up one more time and we're trying to sneak back down when Mr. Brandt came darting around the corner to nab us. Lisa and I managed to hop down quickly but Barbara was stranded on the roof. Barbara hit the deck and Lisa and I tried to act like we were having a sweet little tea party and had no idea why he was upset. I think we managed to get away with it that time but other times we were not so fortunate. We always enjoyed the game of cat and mouse and felt so victorious when we felt we had eluded him. Oh the joys of childhood which he was a big part of. He will definitely live on in our memories. God bless.

We were so sad to hear of Mr. Brandt's passing! May he and his entire family find peace in this difficult time! I felt the need to share a funny story that reminds me of the fun that we (Lisa, myself, and my sister Nicole) had growing up neighbors. It was a Fall day and we were 12,11,and 10 respectively. Mr. Brandt had just sat down to his lunch, a bowl of piping hot tomato soup. We enter the kitchen area bouncing a ball (rubber dodgeball style). He peaks up over his soup to say "No bouncing the ball in the house". Well, I failed to hear that and accidentally gave the ball one more fateful bounce. The ball proceeds to bounce once on the floor and then land perfectly in his soup. To be honest I can't remember the ending, but it is ironic how those words now come out of my mouth to my kids. So Mr. Brandt your memory lives on in my household as the true reason why not to bounce a ball in the house :). Rest in peace!

Ruth, Lisa and the rest of the family, I was so sorry to learn of Carl's passing. He was always nice to me and joyfully welcomed me into your home whenever I was walking by or dropping something off. He took great pride in showing me everything he's done to the house :) I will miss him. You are in my prayers. xoxo Veronica Hidalgo
