I was very close to Nancy since we were in our early 20’s, getting into all kinds of mischief together, always laughing & finding joy in one another.
When I later had children, Nancy always loved them like they were her own.
For my son’s second birthday party, she insisted on really disguising herself as a clown for the kids, handing out balloons and being silly.
My son walked up to her and said “hi Aunt Nancy!” and she was so stunned that he recognized her!
Nancy was a true blue friend, who would always go above & beyond for her loved ones, and a TRUE animal lover. She would save any animal in need. Nancy once kidnapped & boarded a horse who was left out in a field & being mistreated!
Nancy would only allow vegetarian food in her home, and fed & named every wild Turkey who came to visit her patio.
Nancy was a very creative artist & clever person, who was an amazing interior decorator & fine artist. She was good at it all!
We had so many adventures together that would keep us rolling in laughter later… she was a very special friend. We always picked up our conversations where we left off, even though we were not able to get together in person often in the past 10 years.
The world isn’t the same without Nancy in it, and it’s so hard to believe she isn’t here.
My kids & I will always think of her & smile.
Love you always Nancy - glad you are at peace.
xoxo,
“Tootsanne” (my nickname)

What can I say- I am in shock that the force that was Nancy is no longer just a phone call away. She was a friend- that no matter how long it had been since we last talked, would welcome me back into her fold seamlessly. I had just reached out to her a few weeks before her passing to invite her to my wedding. Of course, she said she could not make the trip because she must stay to take care of her beloved Albee. I'm so glad we had that last conversation.
I met Nancy in 1985 through my boyfriend that worked with her roommate, Karen. We stopped by late one morning to pick up some car keys and Nancy was in her beautifully decorated Living room drinking a Mimosa. She was so chic and cool and I had never met anyone like her before. She immediately took me under her wing- sensing that I needed to be included in her kind of adventures. And the adventures we had- usually with Karen being the voice of reason! She influenced me in so many ways- both good and bad- haha. (There were a couple of encounters with a police officer- but Nancy (or was that Natalie?) always charmed her way out of any trouble!) She was so ahead of her time with knowledge of how to care for all living things, nutrition for people and pets, art, fashion, and design - she just plain lived life right.
I will miss you, my friend. Be well in the Universe.

One of Nancy's favorite activities was being in Lake Tahoe on a beautiful summer day followed by a wonderful lunch at West Shore Cafe or Sunnyside.

If you are visiting this tribute to Nancy, it is because you cared about the wonderful person she was. She was the best to be with, anywhere, because she had fun wherever she went and with whomever she was with, and made sure that you too, had fun as well. She was generous that way, always making things nice for others.
Nancy and I met 40 years ago in business and from that day on we never let go of each other. We became sisters in a world we created to delight ourselves as well as friends and family. As roommates we hosted impromptu events to celebrate life itself whether it be a BBQ on a clear day after many with fog or a champagne dress-up to watch Dynasty.
We worked long days and hours together and played just as hard in San Francisco and Woodside and on the Peninsula. It was the 80's, we were single and 30 something and we had nothing but fun. It was at The Sharper Image that Nancy met her Robert and then the 3 of us lived together to continue the fun until they found their house in San Ramon. Together we visited the yearly SF Decorator Showcases, dined at the newest restaurants of celebrated chefs, vacationed in Tahoe and Carmel and enjoyed the wineries of Napa, Sonoma and Livermore.
Nancy was known for being creative and artistic in her home designs, artwork and clothes as well as being generous with her time to decorate just about everyone's home that we knew, and shop for Robert and I dressing us in only the best clothes!
A fierce defender of animals Nancy came home with more than one dog and a few cats that were "homeless". It started with Toby our beautiful Irish Setter in San Carlos to Tommy from a TIP truck lot to Skylar who was being ignored to Albee who no one seemed to want. She loved them all and spoiled them endlessly.
She defended animals from a very young age. She bought non-animal tested products, teaching me to look for the bunny on the products label and supported local and worldwide animal causes, emailing petitions to her friends for support and passing the word around when some pet need adopting.
She had a kind and compassionate heart for animals and those who needed a friend. She gave me stability with her undying love and her funny sayings with the words we made up for our own amusement are a part of me. Nancy was my best friend and it is so true to say, that there will never be another like her.

Hi Karen, been thinking of you so much, since our lives overlapped with the 3 of us! I’m still in shock & was terribly sad to miss the Celebration of Life.
Hope you are well - I’m living in SoCal, but have a grandson now who I come up & visit when I can. Would be great to get together sometime.

Nancy was such a good friend. Even though we lived on different coasts she still listened to me complain and made me laugh. No matter what came her way, she always turned it into some sick comedy I could truly appreciate. She always reminded me that everyone has their own journey and I should just live mine. I will miss her freaking out that I was always thinking of her right before she called me. I will miss her greatly. Thank you for being my friend and putting up with me all these years. Love you, hon. In her memory I’m posting part of a Maya Angelou poem:
“And when great souls die,
after a period peace blooms,
slowly and always
irregularly. Spaces fill
with a kind of
soothing electric vibration.
Our senses, restored, never
to be the same, whisper to us.
They existed. They existed.
We can be. Be and be
better. For they existed.”
